Cover Girl

Easy breezy beautiful cover girl

Or maybe it's maybeline

All day with Almay

Fashion Fair Mac Black Opal

But all I see are shades like

Tan tawny ivory almost nude beige

bronze and cocoa

But they cocoa ain't dark like me

Like I don't have imperfections I want to cover up too

I spend more time in the make-up aisle trying to cover up my

imperfections like we tend to cover up sin

truth be told

I am most beautiful when I wake up in the morning

My skin is flawless

It's not overly oily

Everything is just right

Soap hits

Even the most moisturing kind like shea butter and aloe vera

But all the oils seem to get stripped from my face

As I get ready to face the day and walk into a place

Where all those faces can be that cover girl

But they can't cover every girl

They can't cover this girl

So I question

What's the point of having Queen Latifah and Halle Berry on

commercials

When that's as black as black gets

Beauty this and beauty that

Makeup allows us to hide those imperfections and flaws

Those bruises and scars left by daddy's hands and boyfriend's fist

Cover maybe-aline when all day they all-may be revealed

My color stays Ms. Revlon

My color stays dark

But you fail to recognize my shade in your interpretation of the color-wheel

Recognize dark, like me, is beautiful too

See your makeup inspires me to be my very own cover girl

With my all day Almay smile

Revealing Revlon brown eyes

Mac-style extraordinary deep dimples

And

Fashion fair beautiful dark skin

Accentuated with some soft glitter eye shadow

Clear mascara and lip gloss

Beauty only needs to be accentuated not covered up

With or without makeup
